Ushers,
Greeters, Nurses Guild
The role of the Ushers, Greeters and Nurse’s Guild is considered one of great significance and importance. The origins of these roles are noted
throughout Old Testament through the establishment of “doorkeepers” or
“gatekeepers”. Biblical references to these roles include: Psalms 84:10, 2nd
Kings 22:4, Jeremiah 35:4, 1st Chronicles 9:19 and Ezekiel 40:45-46.The duties assigned at
that time included receiving collections at the House of God or acting in the
capacity of one who kept charge of the House of God.There are some instances where they were even
formally armed guards.
These individuals serve as door keepers to the Tabernacle and aid in the
overall maintenance of keeping order and seeing to the needs of those who
enter.They are the first people
encountered prior to worship service. They usher in the Spirit of God by fostering a welcoming spirit, ensuring
that all who enter are welcomed, a role that is not to be taken lightly as this
can often set the tonefor not only the
spiritual atmosphere of the service butopenness to the reception of God for each individual they encounter.
